Project Life Cycle

  • Phase 2: Planning – The Planning phase is arguably the most important of the four. It involves assembling a project team, assigning roles, and laying out a roadmap for how the specifics of the proposal will be achieved. It is crucial that this phase directly address questions of cost and risk.

  • Phase 3: Implementation – Implementing the proposal according to plan occurs in Phase 3. Various smaller projects that make up the whole are implemented on a scheduled basis, according to the plan, with results monitored along the way. For many IT projects, this phase also includes a certain level of maintenance in order to keep the project on track.

  • Phase 4: Close-Out – The final phase of any IT project is the close-out. When full implementation is complete, the IT team analyses the results to determine acceptability. A positive determination allows the project to be handed off for routine deployment and maintenance, and the project is officially closed.
